Please - JOIN US for our 2nd annual Barn Aid!

Hosted by and held here at Eden's Garden; Chef David GilbertEdible Dallas/Fort Worth, The Balch Springs Chamber of CommerceArtsbyJ Photography, The Green Spot and James Edward Photography are all on board as helping to promote and sponsor the Barn Aid 09 event.  (and the list is growing!)

I am very excited to move the spotlight away from last year's tornado and shine it on 2 very worthy causes Jenice and I have chosen for this year;

The Canteyuke, Inc. Canteyuke, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that benefits the Lakota Sioux Nation of the Rosebud Reserve in South Dakota. Our goal is to provide basic necessities such as non-perishable food, blankets and toiletries. We strive to support those who continue to live a traditional lifestyle while preserving their language, customs and holding true to their culture. Canteyuke, Inc. is a grass-roots organization that relies solely on the donations of the general public.

The Gleaning Network of Texas, a nonprofit, grassroots organization whose goal is to use our state's existing surplus fresh produce resources to help alleviate hunger and improve nutrition for food-insecure Texans.
The Gleaning Network uses volunteers to gather what is left in fields, unloads trucks, and distributes fresh fruits and vegetables to area food assistance programs.

Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.

    • Lone Star Drum, singing Lakota ceremonial music

As Green As We Can Be

The Greenspot market in Dallas is providing biodegradable service ware, plates, cups, e-tickets, and whatever other reusable, renewable, recyclable features we can come up with.  This is about local, organic and green!  The Greenspot - it's where "JD" gets his biodiesel!

 Highlighting local food and sustainable sources of that food including nearby farms and supporters of those farms, along with very real needs such as nutrition and hunger among our neighbors and beyond, are something I hope you can all get behind by participating in our 2nd Annual Barn Aid event. This new urban farm is striving to help make a difference in our community and help spread the word as well as grow the food, to help do our part.

Thank you in advance for considering your support of this event! We hope to see you Sept. 19th.
